Statement from Framingham Baseball League Board of Directors
October 9, 2020
Framingham Baseball League believes in the power of youth baseball to help build stronger individuals and stronger communities. As we look around at our world in a broader sense and in a more specific sense here in our own Framingham community we realize as a league we can not sit by silently.
The players in our program represent a diverse Framingham that should be celebrated. The FBL also understands that the children in our program are of an impressionable age. The lessons they receive on the field of play go beyond the idea of wins and loses. No one is born with hate, but our children become what we teach them. In the light of this year’s growing Black Lives Matter movement against systemic racism and injustice, the FBL must state our commitment to an environment where all teams and volunteers demonstrate the utmost level of sportsmanship and inclusion. At the core of this is respect, and is exemplified by our coaches, volunteers and players no matter, their team, their ethnicity, their gender, or skin color.
We believe the power of our community is what helps us come together, and that our league should be a safe, positive, place for all. Our community members deserve to play in a league where intolerance does not exist and will not be tolerated. Therefore, we stand behind the Black Lives Matter movement and will support all movements that build a better world for our players and their families.
